The centre will be located in the Adelaide City northern Park Lands at Pardipardinyilla / Denise Norton Park (Park 2) and facilities will include:

  • 50 m indoor pool (10 lanes) for swimming carnivals, water sports and recreational use
  • diving amenities
  • 25 m outdoor pool (6 lanes) with lagoon
  • warm water pool for rehabilitation programs
  • a separate learn-to-swim pool
  • indoor leisure water with splash zones and waterslides
  • spa, sauna and steam room
  • outdoor splash pad with waterplay
  • outdoor aquatic zone with barbeques and lawn areas
  • a cafĂ© for both centre visitors and other Park 2 users
  • gym and fitness facilities
  • inclusive amenities and change rooms
  • improved car parking with access from Jeffcott Terrace
  • improved public transport, pedestrian and cycle pathways connecting the centre with existing networks.

The sustainably designed centre will be built on a smaller footprint than the existing facility, allowing 1000 square metres of additional land to be returned to the Parklands.

Construction will begin in late 2023, with the existing Aquatic Centre to close in August 2024 until the project’s completion in late 2025.

The Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing will work with pool users and operators to identify the most suitable alternative options during the closure period.

Initially the project was budgeted at $80 million however, in late 2022, more than 1200 South Australians shared their views on what they wanted the new centre to include.
